17 February 2020: Employees recruited in government jobs in J&K under the controversial recruitment rule SRO-202 that entails a new employee to spend five years in probation. Under the banner of All J&K SRO-202 Employees, hundreds of youth are holding regular protests across the newly created Union Territory, demanding rollback of the ordinance, which was introduced by the state government. The union alleged that even after J&K becoming a UT, those recruited under the rules have been denied service benefits.
The employees were recruited after multi-tier selection process by agencies like J&K Public Service Commission and J&K Services Selection Board, but they have been denied service benefits. It stated as per Rule-7 of this new policy, recruitment process was assured to be completed on a fast-track basis within three months but it has taken more than three years.
11 February 2020: 59 workers of Emerson Process Management (India) Pvt Ltd, which makes valves, in Hinjawadi were locked up in a room on the company’s premises and forced to resign by the management. The Labour Commissioner, Pune also directed the company to reinstate the workers but the company has refused to follow the directives. The workers mostly worked as security guards and drivers in the company for over two decades. The company has already hired contract workers in these positions.
22 January 2020: The Supreme Court has reinstated the woman employee who, worked as a Junior Court Assistant, had accused former Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi of sexual harassment while she was posted at his residence office, targeting her and her family after she refused his advances. The employee had been terminated after multiple transfers on grounds that she had overstepped in questioning her transfers. She had also alleged that Gogoi had used his influence as the senior-most judge in the country to terminate her employment at the Supreme Court, and have her imprisoned under false pretexts when she refused his advances.
The in-house committee had found her allegations without substance and yet she was reinstated after Gogoi retired as the Chief Justice.
